Talk Notes - Democratization of AI with Microsoft Cognitive Services

 

Democratizing AI - For every person and every organization is a ubiquitously rising trend across Microsoft, as well as other major tech companies since Satya Nadella laid out his vision for how deep learning and artificial intelligence will transform the company. Google shifted and revealed its AI first strategy in I/O and even though Tensorflow is more or less now a synonym for serious deep learning in the ML community, Microsoft cognitive services APIs still provide an excellent getting-started gateway to apply machine learning algorithms without a PhD.

My recent talk at Tampa Bay Data Science user group was just about that; how Microsoft Cognitive Services let you build apps with powerful algorithms to see, hear, speak, understand and interpret our needs using natural methods of communication, with just a few lines of code. Easily add intelligent features – such as emotion and sentiment detection, vision and speech recognition, language understanding, knowledge and search – into your app, across devices and platforms such as iOS, Android, and Windows, keep improving, and are easy to set up.

In this talk we reviewed the API around Vision, Speech, Language, Knowledge and Labs and write code to implement Microsoft cognitive services APIs. The session covers how to work with unstructured text and turn unstructured text into meaningful insights into mobile, web and line of business applications. We will see how to use a few lines of code to easily analyze sentiment, extract key phrases, detect topics, and detect language for any kind of text. The session is code driven & will provide samples on how to build smart apps with cognitive services from Microsoft.
